About the weekend

It’s hard to believe but the event in 2017 will be the 32nd year of running. During that time we’ve had all sorts of weather and past weekends can be fondly remembered as  ‘The Windy One, or The Wet One’ but each year we see friends and acquaintances from all over the UK get together to enjoy the simple cocktail of classic cars, great music and fine ales !

Indeed over this period of time youngsters in prams attending with their parents have now found themselves coming back with their own Triumph. We’re delighted that its so family friendly, the kids always make great friends and are able to safely enjoy the great outdoors.

For all its grown into these days, the event’s beginnings were quite small scale and our founder organiser Dave Ferguson, says so much about the weekend. Dave had been coming to Runswick Bay for many years so knew the area well. Say’s Dave:

I bought my first car at 17 years old – a Triumph Spitfire – and joined the TSSC. After a while I became frustrated that all weekend events were held ‘down south’ and together with a few like minded friends started what was to be the North Yorkshire Triumph Weekend. Clearly needing a suitable location, Runswick Bay was the obvious choice.
Under the cover of the TSSC the weekend started with a grand total of 9 cars, and as the event grew in popularity on the 10th anniversary a Committee was formed by mainly Cleveland Group TR Register members. Nowadays the current committee are members of the Stag Owners Club North Yorkshire Area event . However the event remains completely independant of any club.

We now attract a small contribution towards expenses on the event from the following Triumph Clubs

TR Register
Club Triumph
Stag Owners Club

The event raises funds for the independently run and managed Runswick Bay In-shore rescue boat.
